Personal Project
Star Trek Mold Plate
I had so much fun using the injection mold for the last mold plate project that I wanted to do it again. Only this time instead of handwritten code I wanted to try something a little more complex and detailed.
Star Trek is one of my all time favorite shows/series so it seemed fitting to make some of the engineering logos that could easily be turned into keychains, magnets, or general desk decor.

Modeled everything up in SolidWorks and used the HSM plugin to generate toolpaths for the HAAS CNC Mills.
Once both plates were machined the alignment pins were pressed in to one of the halves and the mold was slightly heated to prep for the injected material.
Pasadena City College has a small manual injection molding machine similar to the LNS Model 150A Plastic Injection Molding Machine.
From that point it was all just fun and games mixing colors and experimenting with the marbling effect.
